Lookup a Business Entity

Step 1 – Start

Look up a business entity (Corporation, LLC, Limited Partnership) in Maine by visiting the Secretary of State’s Website.

You will need to refine your search as the database is limited to only returning up to 100 records. You may find a business by Name or Charter Number. After selecting your keywords, you will be sent to the Results Page (As Seen Below).

Step 2 – Choose Your Entity

As you can see the Secretary of State’s database will provide you with a preview of all matching entities as well as their Name, Type, and the option to view the rest of its details by clicking on the ‘Information Summary’ link in the blue text.

Next, you will be brought to the last step which is the Information Page (See Below).

Step 3 – Retrieve Information

You can now view all the details about the corporation you were looking up including it’s Legal Name, Charter Number, Filing Type, Status, Formation Date, Expiration Date, State of Jurisdiction, Fictitious Names, and the Registered Agent’s Name and Address.

You can also purchase any previous filing the corporation has done with the Secretary of State by clicking on the View List of Filings link at the bottom of the page.

Step 4 – Steps to form your new Business in Maine
