Lookup a Business Entity
Step 1 – Start
Search for a Mississippi business entity (Corporation, LLC, Limited Partnership) by going to the Secretary of State’s Website. You will have the option to search by:
- Name
- ID (Charter Number)
- Officer
- Registered Agent
Once you have made your selection and entered the details for the lookup, you will be sent to the Results Page (See Below).
Step 2 – Choose Your Entity

Now you will be able to view any and all matching listings to your query. While reviewing, you will be able to see the entity’s Name, ID Number, Type, Status, and Incorporation Date to help determine which one it is. Once you have located it, you will want to click on the blue text under Name. You will be brought to the Information Page (As Seen Below).

Step 3 – Retrieve Information

You have reached the end of your search and are now able to view all the details about the business on file with the Secretary of State including the Entity’s Name History, Business ID Number, Status, Creation Date, State of Formation, Principal Office Address, Registered Agent (Name and Address), and Mailing Address.
You also have the option of viewing all Previously Filed Documents with the blue text link at the top of the page, and you can view the Officers by clicking on the blue text link at the bottom of the page.
Step 4 – Steps to form your new Business in Mississippi

- Internet domain availability search for website and email.
- Choose your entity type (LLC, S-Corp, C-Corp, Partnership, or Non-Profit Org)
- Obtain IRS EIN Number (employer identification number). Create New IRS EIN Number
- Create Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws that include describing the business purpose of the entity, naming the registered agent, directors, registered address, operating guidelines, dissolution provisions, and other information.
- Determine if the new entity requires any federal, state, or local business licenses.
- Determine payroll tax requirements.
- Determine federal, state, and local tax filing requirements.
- Establish the business physical and/or mailing address, phone number, voicemail, website, email address, and business cards.
