Lookup a Business Entity

Step 1 – Start

To look up a business entity in New Hampshire, you will need to go to the Secretary of State’s Website. Here, you may be able to perform a search by:

• Name
• ID Number
• Registered Agent

After choosing the best lookup option for the information you have you will be sent to the Results Page (As Seen Below).

Step 2 – Choose Your Entity

You may be able to view a preview of some of the details while looking for your selected listing. You will be able to preview the entity’s Name, ID Number, Type, Status, and it’s Formation Date. When you have found your selection click on the blue text link (Under Name). This will bring you to the Information Page (See Below)

Step 3 – Retrieve Information

The last step of the lookup, you are now able to view all information provided by the State of New Hampshire including the entity’s Legal Name, Type, ID Number, Status, Incorporation Date, Principal Office Address (including Mailing Address), Last Annual Report Filed, Registered Agent (Name and Address), and the option to view Previously Filed Documents (blue text link on the top of the page).

Step 4 – Steps to form your new Business in New Hampshire

• Business name availability search (above)
• Internet domain availability search for website and email.
• Choose your entity type (LLC, S-Corp, C-Corp, Partnership, or Non-Profit Org)
• Obtain IRS EIN Number (employer identification number).  Create New IRS EIN Number
• Create Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws that include describing the business purpose of the entity, naming the registered agent, directors, registered address, operating guidelines, dissolution provisions, and other information.
• Determine if the new entity requires any federal, state, or local business licenses.
• Determine payroll tax requirements.
• Determine federal, state, and local tax filing requirements.
• Establish the business physical and/or mailing address, phone number, voicemail, website, email address and business cards.
