Lookup a Business Entity
Step 1 – Start
Search for a business entity (Corporation, LLC, Limited Partnership) in New Mexico by going to the Secretary of State’s Website. Lookup an entity by Name, ID Number, Director, or Registered Agent. If you decide on the By Name option, you will want to use as many matching keywords as you can in order to narrow down the database’s listings.
After you have selected which way to perform your search, you will be brought to the Results Page (As Seen Below).
Step 2 – Choose Your Entity

Now you are able to see all the matching listings by the Secretary of State. While trying to determine which listing to select, you may preview its ID Number, Name, Type, and Status. Click the red text link on the right side of the page (‘Select’) in order to go to the Information Page (See Below) and retrieve all the details about the corporation.

Step 3 – Retrieve Information

You have completed the search process and now are able to view the entity’s Name, Type, Good Standing Status, ID Number, Date of Incorporation, Fiscal Year Date, Directors, Principal Office Address, Registered Agent, Officers, and all Previously Filed Documents.
Step 4 – Steps to form your new Business in New Mexico

- Internet domain availability search for website and email.
- Choose your entity type (LLC, S-Corp, C-Corp, Partnership, or Non-Profit Org)
- Obtain IRS EIN Number (employer identification number). Create New IRS EIN Number
- Create Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws that include describing the business purpose of the entity, naming the registered agent, directors, registered address, operating guidelines, dissolution provisions, and other information.
- Determine if the new entity requires any federal, state, or local business licenses.
- Determine payroll tax requirements.
- Determine federal, state, and local tax filing requirements.
- Establish the business physical and/or mailing address, phone number, voicemail, website, email address, and business cards.
