Lookup a Business Entity
Step 1 – Start
To search for a business entity (Corporation, LLC, Limited Partnership) in Oregon, you must go to the Secretary of State’s Website. You will have the option to perform a lookup by Name, Registry Number, or by an Individual associated with the corporation. When looking up by name, it is highly recommended that you be as descriptive as you can in order to narrow down the results.
After selecting which option to use you will be re-directed to the Results Page (As Seen Below).
Step 2 – Choose Your Entity

Here you will be able to view the matching listings to your query including the entity’s Type, Status, Registry Number, Name Status, and it’s Name. In order to view all the information about the business on file with the Secretary of State, you will need to click on the blue text link under the ‘Name’ column. This will bring you to the Information Page (As Seen Below).

Step 3 – Retrieve Information

You have reached the completion of your search and now may be able to view all the information about the business with the Secretary of State including its Registry Number, Type, Status, State of Jurisdiction, Registry Date, Renewal Date, Profit or Non-Profit, Registered Agent (Name and Address), Principal Office Address, and Mailing Address.
If you scroll to the bottom of the page you will be able to view all the previously filed documents and be able to view scanned images (if available).
Step 4 – Steps to form your new Business in Oregon

- Internet domain availability search for website and email.
- Choose your entity type (LLC, S-Corp, C-Corp, Partnership, or Non-Profit Org)
- Obtain IRS EIN Number (employer identification number). Create New IRS EIN Number
- Create Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws that include describing the business purpose of the entity, naming the registered agent, directors, registered address, operating guidelines, dissolution provisions, and other information.
- Determine if the new entity requires any federal, state, or local business licenses.
- Determine payroll tax requirements.
- Determine federal, state, and local tax filing requirements.
- Establish the business physical and/or mailing address, phone number, voicemail, website, email address, and business cards.
